Curriculum vitae

Paolo graduated in Biotechnology (L-2) in December 2017 at the University of Padua, discussing a bachelor thesis with the title “Characterization of antiviral activity of the antihypertensive drug manidipine identified by a drug repurposing approach”, under the supervision of Dr. Beatrice Mercorelli, where he characterized the in vitro antiviral activity of the antihypertensive manidipine against human cytomegalovirus. He graduated with honors in Medical Biotechnologies (LM-9) in July 2021 at the University of Padua, presenting a master thesis entitled “Genomic characterization of SARS-CoV-2 diffusion in Nuoro province – Sardinia”, under the supervision of prof. Luisa Barzon and co-supervision of Dr. Giuseppe Mameli e Dr. Giovanna Piras. In his master internship at the S. Francesco Hospital – Nuoro, he focused on sequencing the complete genome of SARS-CoV-2 from samples collected in Nuoro province and characterizing the circulating viral diversity from a molecular point of view.

In November 2021, he was granted a PON RI scholarship to join the XXXVII Cycle of PhD program in Life, Environment and Drug Sciences at the University of Cagliari under the supervision of prof. Francesca Esposito, focusing on the development of viral replication inhibitors against emerging and re-emerging viruses. The project involve the pharmaceutical company Dompè.
