Project title: Defining identity through multipart music: the polyphony of women in Corsica

The research project aims to investigate the role of women in the multipart singing oral tradition of Corsica in recent decades, focusing in particular on the factors that have enabled their access to a musical practice historically restricted to men. Through an interdisciplinary approach, which integrates ethnomusicological investigation with the methodologies of gender studies, the aim of the research is to analyse and understand the female modalities of singing in polyphony, which are characterised as much by their sonorous outcomes as by their kinesic, proxemic and gender identity representation aspects.
