The Context
The safeguarding of the environment represents an issue of great current relevance, and its achievement requires an interdisciplinary approach. CINSA was therefore created from the need to harness the synergies between the diverse expertise of scholars and researchers from various departments of the University of Cagliari (hence the adjective 'Interdepartmental'), in order to address issues related to environmental protection, conservation, and decontamination.
The objective of CINSA is thus to develop knowledge in the environmental field, with a focus both on understanding the fundamental phenomenological mechanisms and on the technological-applicative aspects.
CINSA therefore promotes collaboration among university structures and can serve as the ideal partner for regional and local authorities, as well as the industrial sector, in the field of environmental protection
The activites of the Center
CINSA conducts basic and applied research, educational activities, consulting, and services in the following areas, among others:
- Environment and health
- Sustainable processes
- Environmental monitoring
- Renewable energy
- Soil protection
- Air pollution
- Water quality
- Waste management
- Circular bioeconomy and sustainable agri-industry
CINSA's approach to environmental issues involves the synergistic use of all the expertise of its affiliated researchers, ranging from purely experimental to theoretical, computational, and engineering, as shown in the figure.
Structures and resources
For its research activities, CINSA can rely on the laboratories and analytical instruments available at the headquarters in Via San Giorgio in Cagliari, as well as on the laboratories of the various departments of the University of Cagliari faculty affiliated with the Center. The staff consists of faculty and researchers affiliated with the Center, as well as PhD students, research fellows, scholarship holders, and interns from the University.
