Laser Granulometry (Self-Service)

Laser granulometry

The lab allows for the determination of particle size and particle size distribution of materials using laser scattering technique.

Particle size is measured using the technique of laser scattering. Samples are dispersed in either a liquid or an air cell. A laser beam passes through the cell and the dispersed particles scatter the light creating a scattering pattern. The optics measure the angles and intensity of the scattered light from which the particle size distribution is calculated using Mie Theory.

Sample type: Dry powders, Suspensions, Colloids, Soils

Particle size range: 10 nm - 3500 µm

Equipment: Malvern Mastersizer 3000 with Hydro MV dispersion unit.
