The relationship of the amalgamation property and logical interpolation properties is the object of many studies. I will start by presenting a short tutorial of the general theory in the setting of universal algebra, and then indicate how the general results apply to propositional substructural logics and residuated lattices. Further, we provide general techniques for establishing the amalgamation property for varieties of residuated lattices that are generated by their totally ordered members. Several applications illustrate the general theorems.
