GENERAL OVERVIEW OF THE SEMINAR
The aim of Re-Cult (Re-programming Culture) seminar-laboratory is to analyze contemporary form of mass media and social communication to deepen the comprehension of their effects on European space and citizenship. The seminar will tackle the different form of engagement related to “hot” contemporary issues, such as war, Covid, climate change, immigration. A particular attention will be devoted to the forms of protest and conflict that take place in the social media or transversally spread through different media and semiospheres. The aim is to improve students’ abilities in using semiotic tools of analysis of texts, images, practices, and cultures in order to understand how different “subjectivities” and “truths” are more or less strategically shaped in contemporary. Through a collaborative and comparative analysis of specific case-studies, Re-Cult aims at strengthening students’ abilities to exercise a semiotic critique and develop creative skills to counter-react to forms of communication that tends to favor xenophobic populism, spread of fake-news, distrust in civic engagement and a more open society.
