Rapid post-earthquake assessment of damaged buildings - The case study of Croatia.

abstract:
A severe earthquake hits Croatia in 2020 (magnitudes 5.5 and 6.3 half a year later). During the COVID-19 lockdown, the events occurred and caused significant damage to the built environment and enormous disruption in everyday life. Brief facts about the Zagreb and Petrinja earthquake, the typology of buildings, and the data collection after the quakes will be presented. The presentation focuses on post-earthquake assessment, damage classification, and failure patterns of buildings in Zagreb's old historical town, where masonry structures prevail. Also, the problems in the renovation of the earthquake-damaged areas will be presented.
