Collaborative Online International Learning (COIL) (sometimes called Virtual Exchange (VE)) has become of the main methods for internationalising curricula at universities through online peer-to-peer collaborative project. The ultimate focus of COIL projects is to help both academics and their students acquire intercultural competences.

The project involves two or more academic staff from different national/cultural contexts coming together in designing collaborate tasks their students will engage in online ultimately to gain collaborative, intercultural and digital competences.

The proposed training sessions aim to train academics to enable them to design and execute COIL project with their peers at universities abroad. Assuming no prior knowledge, the training covers themes and issues from a range of disciplinary perspectives: from frameworks examining cultural dimensions and how to optimise communication and work across cultures, to approaches to pedagogical design in international online collaborations, to organisational behavioural approaches to solid team formation and effective teamwork.
