This work provides a comprehensive analysis of the mechanical and durability performance of RCAs in structural applications, exploring key parameters such as compressive and tensile strength, modulus of elasticity, bond behavior, creep, and carbonation. It also highlights the potential of RCA pretreatment and CO2 capture strategies, with an emphasis on Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for sustainable construction.
What makes this publication especially meaningful for me is that it is the first first-author paper by my PhD student Alireza Alibeigibeni. His dedication and efforts shaped this contribution to the field of sustainable concrete.
My sincere thanks to co-authors Alireza Alibeigibeni, Marco Zucca and Fernando López Gayarre, and to the Buildings editorial team for their support.
We hope this work helps bridge the gap between sustainability goals and structural performance in recycled concrete design.
