A primary challenge has been the management of Construction and Demolition Waste (CDW). While recycling these materials is environmentally desirable, structural engineers have long been cautious about the performance of Recycled Aggregate Concrete (RAC) in load-bearing applications.

In structural fire design, compressed steel braces are often assumed to be ineffective: high temperatures reduce mechanical properties and induce thermal strains that lead to early buckling. Consequently, braces are typically neglected in capacity assessments.
