Castello District
The historic heart of the city, located on a hill overlooking Cagliari.
Highlights include medieval towers, ancient walls, the Cathedral of Santa Maria and panoramic views over the harbour and the city.
How to get there:
- On foot: from the city centre (Via Roma / Largo Carlo Felice) in about 15–20 minutes, uphill.
- By lift: public elevators are available from Viale Regina Margherita or Via Santa Croce, making access easier.
- By bus: CTM bus lines 7 and 8 stop close to the Castello area.
Bastione di Saint Remy
A monumental terrace connecting the lower city to the Castello district.
A popular meeting point with panoramic views, especially at sunset.
How to get there:
- On foot: directly accessible from Piazza Costituzione.
- By lift: a public elevator connects Piazza Costituzione to the upper terrace.
- By bus: several CTM lines stop at Piazza Costituzione.
Tip: The Bastione is an excellent starting point for exploring the Castello district.
Poetto Beach
Cagliari’s main city beach, stretching for several kilometres.
Ideal for a walk, a swim or a sunset aperitivo. Easily reachable by public transport from the city centre.
How to get there:
- By bus: CTM bus line PQ, 5 or 3 from the city centre.
- Travel time: approximately 20–30 minutes.
- By taxi: about 15–20 minutes, depending on traffic.
Tip: Ideal for late afternoon or sunset, with many cafés and restaurants along the promenade.
Molentargius–Saline Regional Park
A protected natural park between Cagliari and Quartu Sant’Elena, famous for its pink flamingos.
Perfect for nature lovers, walking and cycling, just a few minutes from the city.
How to get there:
- By bus: CTM bus lines 3 or 31 (stops near the park entrances).
- By bike: bike rentals are available in the city; the park has dedicated cycling paths.
- By taxi: approximately 10–15 minutes from the city centre.
