Andrea Maxia is an Associate Professor of Pharmaceutical Botany (SC 05/A1 - SSDBIO15) at the Faculty of Biology and Pharmacy, Department of Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Cagliari (https://orcid.org/0000-0002-6675-2219; https://www.scopus.com/authid/detail.uri?authorId=6507923329). In 2000, he graduated in Natural Sciences and obtained a Master Degree in Conservation of Nature and its Resources. In 2003 won the public exam for the Ph.D. course in Pharmaceutical Botany (University of Cagliari, UNICA) getting the scholarship as the first on the list. In 2006, he obtained the title of Ph.D. and in the same year, he won the public exam for a Research position (RTI-SSD BIO15) at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Cagliari, and in the same year is Assistant Professor of Plant Biology, Plant Systematics, and Ethnopharmacology at the same Faculty. In 2015 won the public exam for Associate Professor (SC 05/A1, SSD BIO15) at the Faculty of Biology and Pharmacy, University of Cagliari.

He cooperates with national e international universities (e.g. Roma, IT; Bologna, IT; Coimbra, PT, Bophal, IND) pharmaceutical companies (e.g. INDENA, IT; AnalytiCon Discovery GmbH, DE), and research institutes at regional, national, and international levels (e.g. AGRIS, IT; PBRI, IND). He has published widely on various aspects of the MAPs (Medicinal and Aromatic Plants). His research focuses mainly on plant species of economic interest, especially MAPs. In particular, he studies new bioactive phytocompounds from plant sources of pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and health interest; moreover, analyses the biosynthesis of active compounds, including the morphological and diagnostic characterization of herbs and herbal material.
