Andrea Maxia graduated from the University of Cagliari, Cagliari, Italy, completing a combined B.S. and M.S. degree in natural sciences, awarded with distinction, specializing in nature conservation and natural resources management. In 2015, A.Maxia was appointed as an Associate Professor in pharmaceutical botany at the Faculty of Biology and Pharmacy. In 2006, after completing his Ph.D. degree in pharmacology of medicinal plants at the University of Cagliari, which was funded by the same university, he joined the Faculty of Biology and Pharmacy as a Researcher in pharmaceutical botany and as a Lecturer on plant biology, plant systematics, and pharmaceutical botany. In 2001, Dr. Maxia won a scholarship at the Department of Botanical Sciences, University of Cagliari, for the MAPs project (Medicinal & Aromatic Plants project). As a Researcher with Co.S.Me.Se., Interuniversity Consortium for the Study of Secondary Natural Metabolites (Italy), since 2004, he also cooperates with universities, pharmaceutical companies, and research institutes at regional, national, and international levels. Andrea Maxia carries out his scientific activities at the Department of Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Cagliari, and at Co.S.Me.Se., Interuniversity Consortium for the Study of Secondary Natural Metabolites. He has published widely on various aspects of the MAPs. His research focuses mainly on plant species of economic interest, especially aromatic and medicinal plants (MAPs). In particular, A. Maxia studies new bioactive phytocompounds from plant sources of pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and health interest, focusing on their identification. Moreover, analyzes the biosynthesis of active compounds, including the morphological and diagnostic characterization of herbs and herbal material. Further research interests of Professor Maxia include medical ethnobotany and poisonous plants.
