Maria Cristina Carrisi graduated in Mathematic in 2003 and received her PhD in Mathematics from the University of Cagliari in 2008.

From 19/12/2008 to 3/01/2013 she has a post doc position at the University of Cagliari. The research project was entitled “Problemi aperti in  termodinamica estesa e influenza dei gruppi di Poincaré e di De Sitter sulla relatività ristretta”.

In 2017 she received the National Scientific Qualification as associated professor SSD 01/A4 (Mathematical Physics) and in 2023 as full professor SSD 01/A4 (Mathematical Physics).

In November 2019 she joined the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Cagliari as a Researcher. From november 2024 she is an associate professor in the same department, researching on fluid dynamics, studing models for monatomic and polyatomic gases in both classical and relativistic framworks, especially using the methods of Rational Extended Thermodynamics.

She has always been interested in Math and CS education. In particular, she studies how computer science teaching can influence the acquisition of mathematical concepts or introduce misconceptions. She is also interested in the influence of technology on mathematics teaching and learning, particularly artificial intelligence. Over the years, this has become her primary research interest, leading to a change of SSD in August 2025.

She authored more than 40 papers in international peer review journals (https://www.scopus.com/authid/detail.uri?authorId=23102255800).

She partecipated as speaker to many international conferences, in Italy and abroad.
