History
The Political Science library was opened in the early 1970s following the transfer of part of the library’s collections from the Law Department. The collection of documents originally had an economic-legal, economic-statistical and legal-philosophy nature. Over time, it has acquired a mainly political and social dimension, in keeping with the field of studies it refers to.
The books were initially assigned to various study rooms and then subsequently collected in the facilities provided by the Faculty of Political Science, referred to since then as book deposits. Since the 1980s, the deposits have housed an ever-growing number of books organised and arranged according to main thematic areas.
In the 1990s, the transformation of the library was completed following major works. A large study room with an entrance area offering services to the public was created by building a new block next to the old building. Mezzanine floors were added to a large part of the old areas occupied by the library, used for both the public and for storing library material. The old entrance inside the Faculty was closed and replaced with new direct access onto Viale Sant’Ignazio, making it organisationally independent.
On 4 July 2008, by Rectoral Decree no. 907, it became a section of the Social, Economic and Legal Science District Library.
