Our research explores the potential of jute fiber nets and composite mortars in transforming seismic-vulnerable buildings into safer, energy-efficient structures. By evaluating the mechanical and thermal properties of these natural fiber products, we've demonstrated their significant role in integrated retrofitting.
Key Findings:
Enhanced Structural Performance: Jute nets with a 2.5 cm × 1.25 cm mesh configuration are 35.80% stiffer and can absorb 60% more strain energy, making them ideal for strengthening masonry walls.
Thermal Insulation: Composite mortars incorporating recycled jute fibers exhibit promising insulation capabilities, with thermal conductivity values ranging from 0.110 to 0.121 W/mK.
Sustainability: The recyclability of leftover jute fibers in mortar preparation highlights their eco-friendly potential, supporting greener construction practices.
?? As we move forward, optimizing TRM thickness and scaling up jute net production for industrial use are our next steps. Additionally, integrating Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) will provide a comprehensive view of the environmental impact, aligning with EU sustainability goals.
