Abstract

In the context of Romanesque architecture in Sardinia, the church of Sant’Efisio in Nora stands out as one of the most interesting and ancient examples of its kind, which is mentioned in the donation to the Abbey of Saint Victor in Marseille in 1089. The article traces the construction history of the building, focusing on the Victorine reconstruction phase and its peculiarities, thanks to a careful analysis of the masonry stratigraphy and a reexamination of the sources and published literature. Furthermore, it delves into the history of the restorations with previously unreleased documentary evidence from the Restoration Archive of the Cultural Heritage Agency for the Metropolitan City of Cagliari and the provinces of Oristano and South Sardinia.
