Abstract

The European energy transition process aims to improve the sustainability of the energy sector through its democratization, which involves enabling citizens to generate, share, and sell energy produced by locally owned renewable facilities. Energy communities and collective self-consumption groups are ways to engage and raise awareness in local communities in a virtual and flexible way, where any customer connected to the local distribution distribution network can easily join or leave the aggregate of users sharing renewable energy production and consumption. This paper presents a case study of a collective self-consumption group located in a smart building, developed as part of the Horizon 2020 Lightness project. The sizing of the facilities to be installed at the building is approached with an innovative techno-economic approach that allows to analyse the potential benefits that can be obtained by simulating multiple sizing scenarios of the generation and the storage systems associated with the condominium.
