Abstract

The essay deals, through a review of medieval sources, literaries and documentaries, with the gradual establishment of a secular literature able of founding educational principles, publics and privates, and therefore conceived not to be a simple reflection of reality, but a total introduction to reality. This is the path from the literature to the courtly ethics, literarily born also to civilize nobles knights, often robbers, and transformed over the centuries in the foundation of civilized values that characterize a large part of European civilization.
