Abstract

This work reveals the events of the Mutual Aid Society of Serramanna from 1908 to 2008 through unedited resources found in its social archive. The Mutual aid Society of Serramanna is one of 13 still active and currently operating amongst 115 found between mid 19th century and first decade of XXth century. We particularly examine the birth phase of the society, the creation of its deeds and how its services were effectively distributed amongst its members, the difficult time of Fascism. Furthermore the reduction of the role and activity of the society due to the development of the welfare state and from the 70s the change towards a more social gathering function.
