Un ibrido della laicità: le Leys d'amors

Abstract

The essay peruses the previous studies on Leys d'Amors by Consistori of Gay saber from Toulouse, suggesting a new interpretation for the first book of what is known as the second prose version. This edition has a marked ideological character since it clearly maintains that the grammatical and metrical taxonomy - mainly derived from Prisciano - has beeb interpreted exsclusively as a technical repertoire for the poet intellecyual, who, as a civic auctoritas and follower of the catholic orthodoxy, in fact competed with the clerics for the ethic, aesthetic and political leadership in society. Such a high, potentially hegemonic ambition was not, however, adequately supported by an adequate integration of rethorical and theological knowledge. Theology was, and indeed still is, a powerful universal ideology wich the mantenedors could not truly command nor had thoroughly studied, and, as a consequence of all that, their claim for civil autonomy missed a proper world view that could justify it.
