Abstract

One of the key tools for the effective operation of the power system is the accurate knowledge of transmission line parameters, whose values can be different from those available in the transmission system operator database because they vary with aging and for several other reasons. Research activities have been dedicated to address the problem of line parameter estimation and, recently, estimation from synchrophasor measurements has emerged as a promising approach. A novel method has also been proposed to improve the line parameter estimation, which addresses the line parameter estimation task along with the compensation of systematic measurements errors that are attributed mainly to instrument transformers. This paper aims at characterizing such method by verifying its performance in different measurement scenarios and under different configurations. The method is intended to work not only on single branches, but also with multiple branches. In this perspective, it is particularly important to evaluate its behavior with different configurations of the PMU monitoring system. Tests have been performed on the IEEE 14 bus test system and the obtained results confirmed the method effectiveness and reliability also beyond the normal settings and operating conditions.
