Abstract

The current state of creativity theory is reviewed. This study shows that effective knowledge management is essential in a creative knowledge environment of R&D groups. A key source of external and internal innovation for all firms is the creativity of the people they employ. Employees may exhibit creativity by developing new knowledge, advancing technologies, or making process improvements that change or improve a firm's products or services. However, this creativity does not happen automatically. Organizations and their managers must ensure that their employees will make creative contributions. They must first hire people with the potential for creativity, and then they must structure their employees' environment in order to bring out this creative potential. Major theories of creativity are examined, problems of implementations are discussed, and directions for future research are suggested.
