Abstract

This paper wants to offer some insights on the phenomena of continuity and discontinuity that characterise the transition from the Punic era to the Roman times in Sardinia. The field of investigation will focus more specifically on the examination of certain aspects of the cults of the island, with particular regard to agrarian cults, such as the cults of Dionysus/Bacchus and those of Demeter/Ceres; the analysis of material evidence and places of worship dedicated to these deities allows us to observe the cultural evolution and the dynamics of acculturation, which are different according to the context, showing an adaptation to the cultural forms of the dominant culture. A notable example is provided by the transition from the thymiateria in the shape of a female head/bust, dedicated to a goddess of the harvest, to the busts of the so-called Sarda Ceres.
