Abstract

Metaphor is a theme that has always been present in the reflections on language. Disciplines such as philosophy, literary criticism, rhetoric and, more recently, cognitive science, have focused on this theme. The semantic theories, however, tend to consider marginal not literal meaning. The survey carried out in this book offers a perspective that explores the ways in which metaphor, a central phenomenon of the actual use of language and processes of everyday thinking, leads to radically change the theoretical approaches to the study of meaning, mind and computational simulations produced in Artificial Intelligence.
