Abstract

Carbonia is an exemplary case of building democracy in Sardinia. The main subject of this process will be the class of miners, formed on the ruins of the myth of the fascist “autarchic city”. The growth of trade unions after 1945, and the struggles for the rights and dignity of workers will go hand in hand with a strong participatory boost, which will make Carbonia a nerve center of the movement for the “rebirth” of Sardinia, and will create a virtuous circle between institutions and civil society intended to last for a long time.
