Leonardo Regano obtained his Master's Degree in Computer Engineering (final grade: 110/110) from the Polytechnic University of Turin in 2015 and his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering and Systems in 2019. He currently holds the position of Assistant Professor (TD-A) in Computer Engineering at the University of Cagliari. Previously, he worked as a Research Fellow from 2015 to 2020 and Senior Research Fellow from 2020 to 2023 at the Polytechnic University of Turin. His research interests primarily focus on the security of computer systems and networks, particularly in the following areas:

• Security and protection of software;
• Applications of Machine Learning and Deep Learning for cybersecurity;
• Security of software networks.

From March to May 2023, he was a Visiting Researcher at Ghent University (Belgium). Dr. Regano has been a member of the program committee for the ACSAC and ITASEC conferences since 2024, and he serves as a reviewer for several scientific journals, including IEEE Transactions on Dependable and Secure Computing and Elsevier Computer & Security. He has also participated in various international research projects, such as the EU-funded ASPIRE (2013-2017) and PALANTIR (2020-2023).

Since 2024, he has been co-teaching the Operating Systems course for the Master's Degree in Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity, and Artificial Intelligence at the University of Cagliari. Previously, he served as a teaching assistant for Object-Oriented Programming courses (2018-2021) and Information Systems Security (2022-2023) for the Bachelor's and Master's Degree programs in Computer Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Turin.

In 2023, he obtained an international patent (further details available on Knowledge Share or Google Patents) for an innovative Deep Learning technology for automatic software security evaluation.

Leonardo Regano ha conseguito presso il Politecnico di Torino la Laurea Magistrale in Ingegneria Informatica (voto finale: 110/110) nel 2015 e il Dottorato di Ricerca (PhD) in Ingegneria Informatica e dei Sistemi nel 2019. Attualmente ricopre il ruolo di Ricercatore TD-A (Assistant Professor) di Ingegneria Informatica presso l'Università degli Studi di Cagliari. In precedenza, è stato Assegnista di Ricerca dal 2015 al 2020 e Assegnista di Ricerca Senior dal 2020 al 2023 presso il Politecnico di Torino. I suoi interessi di ricerca si concentrano principalmente sulla sicurezza dei sistemi e delle reti informatiche, in particolare nei seguenti ambiti:

• sicurezza e protezione del software;
• applicazioni del Machine Learning e del Deep Learning per la sicurezza informatica;
• sicurezza delle reti software.

Da marzo a maggio 2023 è stato Visiting Researcher presso l'Università di Ghent (Belgio). Il Dott. Regano fa parte dal 2024 del comitato di programma delle conferenze ACSAC e ITASEC, ed è revisore di diverse riviste scientifiche, tra cui IEEE Transactions on Dependable and Secure Computing e Elsevier Computer & Security. Ha partecipato, anche come leader di unità di lavoro, a diversi progetti di ricerca internazionali, tra cui i progetti finanziati dall’Unione Europea ASPIRE (2013-2017) e PALANTIR (2020-2023).

Dal 2024 è co-docente del corso di Operating Systems per il corso di Laurea Magistrale in Computer Engineering, Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence dell'Università degli Studi di Cagliari. In precedenza è stato assistente didattico nei corsi di Programmazione a oggetti (2018-2021) e Sicurezza dei Sistemi Informativi (2022-2023) per i corsi di Laurea Triennale e Magistrale in Ingegneria Informatica del Politecnico di Torino.

Nel 2023 ottiene un brevetto internazionale (più dettagli su Knowledge Share o Google Patents) per una tecnologia innovativa, basata su Deep Learning, per la valutazione automatica della sicurezza del software.
