Nato a Padova il 4.06.39. Già professore ordinario di Geologia Applicata presso la Facoltà di Ingegneria dell’Università di Cagliari dal 1980 all’1.11.2010, da quella data è professore a contratto per la stessa disciplina. Dall’1.10.99 al 30.09.05 è stato direttore del Dipartimento di Ingegneria del Territorio.
E’ consulente scientifico dell’UNESCO, Division of Water Sciences per il progetto MED/MAP sulla gestione integrata degli acquiferi costieri del Mediterraneo e membro del Comitato Italiano dell’IHP. Dal 2003 chairman della commissione e dal 2011 del network internazionale dell’ IAH su “Coastal aquifer dynamics and coastal zone management”.
Egli ha svolto un’intensa attività di ricerca come responsabile della parte italiana in numerosi progetti bilaterali e multilaterali con varie istituzioni Europee, Nord-africane, e Israeliane per studi di Idrogeologia Applicata nei mezzi fratturati e porosi. E’ autore di oltre 110 pubblicazioni.
Born in Padua on June 4, 1939, he is being professor of Engineering Geology at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Cagliari since 1980. From November 1, 1999, to September 30, 2005, he was the director of the Department of Land Engineering.
Since 2003 chairman of the International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH) network on “Coastal aquifer dynamics and coastal zone management”. Since 2007 is being the chairman of the Hydrogeology Section, and from 2009-2012 also the editor in chief of the “Proceedings on line” of the Italian Geological Society. He was the president of the IAH Italian Committee from 1997-2011.
He is a scientific adviser of the UNESCO-IHP MED-MAP project on the Management of Coastal Aquifers, Groundwater and Land involving all extra-EC countries.
He has carried out an intensive research activity as responsible for the Italian party in a number of bilateral and multilateral projects with European, North-African, and Israeli research institutions for groundwater applied studies in fractured and porous media. He is the author of more than 110 papers, mainly on Engineering Geology, the Hydrogeology of Hard Rocks, Coastal Aquifers, and Integrated Water Resources Management.
