Diego Reforgiato Recupero è Professore Ordinario al Dipartimento di Matematica e Informatica dell'Università di Cagliari dal Febbraio 2022. Nel Dicembre 2015 era diventato Professore Associato nello stesso dipartimento. E' direttore e fondatore del laboratorio di Human-Robot-Interaction (http://hri.unica.it), co-direttore e fondatore del laboratorio di Artificial Intelligence and Big Data (http://aibd.unica.it), co-direttore del Semantic Web laboratory (http://swlab.unica.it/), e membro della Commissione brevetti e spin-off dell'Università. Fa parte di diverse commissioni all'interno del Dipartimento di Matematica e Informatica. Inoltre è coordinatore e co-fondatore del nuovo corso di laurea triennale in "Informatica Applicata e Data Analytics" all'Università di Cagliari. Insegna "Architettura degli Elaboratori" al corso di laurea triennale in Informatica, "Big Data" e "Deep Learning and Applications" per il corso di laurea magistrale in informatica. E' un programmatore, sviluppatore software e esperto ICT. Ha due lauree in Informatica prese all'Università di Catania e un Ph.D. preso all'Università di Napoli Federico II. E' abilitato all'esercizio della professione di Ingegnere Informatico. Nel 2005 ha vinto un Post Doc alla Università del Maryland dove nel 2006 ha vinto il prestigioso Computer World Horizon Award negli USA per il migliore progetto di ricerca con OASYS, an opinion analysis system che è stato commercializzato da SentiMetrix (azienda americana che ha co-fondato). Nel 2008, ha vinto un Grant Marie Curie che gli ha permesso di rientrare in Italia e un finanziamento per un Post Doc di 3 anni al dipartimento di Ingegneria Elettrica, Elettronica e Informatica (DIEEI) dell'Università di Catania dove ha vinto il premio “Best Researcher Award 2012” per un progetto sullo sviluppo di un router green vicino a commercializzazione. Nello stesso anno è arrivato sul podio dei vincitori dello “Startup Weekend” di Catania ed è stato un vincitore di Telecom Italia Working Capital di un Award di 25k euro con il progetto “Green Home Gateway”. Nel 2012 co-fonda R2M Solution s.r.l. Nel 2013 ha vinto una posizione di Post Doc al Semantic Technology Laboratory (STLAB) dell'Istituto di Scienze e Tecnologie della Cognizione (ISTC) del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (CNR) dove ha lavorato sul Semantic Web e Linked Open Data; è tuttora associato ad STLAB (ISTC-CNR), (http://stlab.istc.cnr.it/), dove continua a collaborare nell'ambito del Semantic Web ed NLP. Sempre nel 2013 pubblica un articolo su Science sull'efficienza energetica di Internet. Oltre a SentiMetrix inc. (azienda statunitense nata nel 2007) e R2M Solution s.r.l. (azienda Italiana nata nel 2012) è co-fondatore di R2M Solution ltd. (azienda UK nata nel 2013), La Zenia s.r.l. (azienda Italiana nata nel 2014 per gestione di eventi sportivi e manifestazioni ricreative), B-UP (azienda italiana spin-off del CNR nata nel 2016 insieme ai colleghi del CNR e relativa alla creazione di software relativo al dominio del Semantic Web) e VISIOSCIENTIAE (spin-off universitario dell'Università di Cagliari nato nel 2018 e relativo all'applicazione dell'intelligenza artificiale al dominio della financial technology). Nel 2018 insieme a Philips Research e altre quattro istituzioni scrive e vince PhilHumans, un European Industrial Doctorate Marie Curie per finanziare 8 dottorandi internazionali e di cui coordina diverse attività e prima del suo tipo mai vinta dall'Università di Cagliari. Nel 2021 vince e coordina Dr. VCoach, un progetto di due anni (Marie Curie Individual Fellowship), per far rientrare il ricercatore Nino Cauli nell'ateneo cagliaritano dopo un lungo periodo di formazione all'estero. Nel 2023, vince il progetto nazionale DAMPAI (Data Mesh Platform Builder with AI) insieme ad AgileLab, per la creazione di una piattaforma a subscription che abiliti la massima interoperabilità per lo scambio dei dati tra diversi soggetti introducendo un'ontologia per l'automatic provisioning e un motore di discriminazione semantica per la ricerca dei vari knowledge graph prodotti. Sempre nel 2023, all'interno del GEANT Innovation Programme Europeo, vince e coordina il progetto CAMEL - Comparative Analysis of Metrics for an Enhanced Level of Blockchain KPI measurement. E ancora nel 2023, all'interno del progetto Europeo NGI Search, vince e coordina INDI, che ha lo scopo di creare un motore di ricerca open-source basato su concetti come explainability, human-in-the-loop, anonymity, fairness, e inclusiveness. E' proprietario di un brevetto nel campo del data mining e del sentiment analysis (20100023311). E' vincitore di più di 10 Best Research Paper Awards in prestigiose conferenze Internazionali. Ha esperienza industriale e di consulenza in diverse aziende nazionali e internazionali. Ha esperienza di ricerca lungo una vasta serie di progetti di ricerca vinti (scritti, finanziati e coordinati), Italiani, FP7 e H2020 (con R2M, dove ha ricoperto la carica di amministratore delegato, circa 40 finanziati FP7 e H2020) nel campo dell'ICT, Risparmio Energetico nelle Reti di Telecomunicazioni e Smart Grids, Robotica e Semantic Web. E' autore di piu' di 220 lavori scientifici in questi campi di ricerca con piu' di 3000 citazioni. E' co-editore dei libri: 1) S. Consoli, D. Reforgiato Recupero, and M. Diego Reforgiato Recupero has been a Full Professor at the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of the University of Cagliari, Italy since February 2022. In December 2015 he joined the University of Cagliari as Associate Professor. He is director and creator of the Human-Robot-Interaction Laboratory (http://hri.unica.it), co-director and creator of the Artificial Intelligence and Big Data Laboratory (http://aibd.unica.it), co-director of the Semantic Web laboratory (http://swlab.unica.it/), and member of the Commission for start-up and spin-off of the University. He is a member of different commissions within the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. Moreover, he is the coordinator and co-founder of the new bachelor's degree "Applied Computer Science and Data Analytics" of the University of Cagliari. He teaches "Computers Architecture" for the bachelor degree in Computer Science, "Big Data" and "Deep Learning and Applications" for the master degree in Computer Science. He is a programmer, software developer, automation, and ICT expert. He holds a double master's degree from the University of Catania in computer science and a doctoral degree from the Department of Computer Science of the University of Naples Federico II. He got the National qualification for Computer Science Engineering and he is a Computer Science Engineer. In 2005 he was awarded a 3 year Post Doc fellowship with the University of Maryland where in 2006 he won the Computer World Horizon Award in the USA for the best research project on OASYS, an opinion analysis system that was commercialized by SentiMetrix (US company he co-founded). In 2008, he won a Marie Curie International Grant, PROVIDEO, that allowed him to come back to Italy and was able to fund a 3 year Post Doc fellowship within the Department of Electrical, Electronic, and Computer Science Engineering (DIEEI) at the University of Catania. There he won the “Best Researcher Award 2012” for a project about the development of a green router nearing commercialization. In the same year, he got to the winning podium of the “Startup Weekend” event held in Catania and was a winner of Telecom Italia Working Capital Award with a grant of 25k euros for the “Green Home Gateway” project. In 2012 he co-founded the Italian company R2M Solution s.r.l. In 2013 he won a Post-Doctoral Researcher position within the Semantic Technology Laboratory (STLAB) of the Institute of Cognitive Science and Technologies (ISTC) of the National Research Council (CNR) where he worked on Semantic Web and Linked Open Data; he is still an associated researcher at STLAB (ISTC-CNR), (http://stlab.istc.cnr.it/) where he collaborates within the Semantic Web and NLP domains. In 2013 he published a paper on Science related to the energy efficiency techniques on the Internet. Besides SentiMetrix inc. (US company founded in 2007) and R2M Solution s.r.l. (Italian company founded in 2012), he co-founded R2M Solution ltd. (UK company founded in 2014), La Zenia s.r.l. (Italian company founded in 2014 for management of sports and recreational events), B-UP (Italian company and spin-off of the CNR founded in 2016 together with colleagues of CNR related to the development of software within the Semantic Web domain) and VISIOSCIENTIAE (a spin-off of the University of Cagliari founded in 2018 and related to the application of artificial intelligence to the financial domain). In 2018 together with Philips Research and other four institutions he wrote and won PhilHumans, a European Industrial Doctorate Marie Curie to fund 8 international Ph.D. students and for which he coordinates several tasks, and, first in its kind ever won by the University of Cagliari. In 2021 he coordinated and won Dr. VCoach, a Marie Curie Individual Fellowhip  two-years project that allowed the researcher Nino Cauli to come back to Sardinia after several years spent abroad for research. In 2023, he won the national project DAMPAI (Data Mesh Platform Builder with AI) together with AgileLab, for the creation of a subscription platform that enables maximum interoperability for the exchange of data between different subjects by introducing an ontology for automatic provisioning and a semantic discrimination engine for searching the various knowledge graphs produced. Also in 2023, within the European GEANT Innovation Programme, he won and coordinated the CAMEL - Comparative Analysis of Metrics for an Enhanced Level of Blockchain KPI measurement project. And again in 2023, within the European NGI Search project, he wins and coordinates INDI, a project that aims to create an open-source search engine based on concepts such as explainability, human-in-the-loop, anonymity, fairness, and inclusiveness. Prof. Reforgiato is a patent co-owner in the field of data mining and sentiment analysis (20100023311). He was awarded more than 10 Best Research Paper Awards in prestigious International Conferences. He has industrial and consulting experience in several national and international industries. He has research experience (writing of the proposals and coordination after their acceptance and funding) across a wide array of industrial, Italian, FP7, and H2020 research projects (with R2M, where he covered the role of managing director, about 40 funded FP7 and H2020 projects) most recently in the fields of ICT, Energy Saving in Telecommunication Networks and Smart Grids, Robotics and Semantic Web. He is the author of more than 220 conference and journal papers in these research fields, with more than 3000 citations. He is co-editor of the books: 1) S. Consoli, D. Reforgiato Recupero, and M. Petkovic (2019) Data Science for Healthcare: Methodologies and Applications, Springer Nature. 2) S. Consoli, D. Reforgiato Recupero, and M.
