SHORT BIOGRAPHY
Giuseppe Sergioli is a Full Professor of Logic and Philosophy of Science at the University of Cagliari, in the Department of Pedagogy, Psychology, and Philosophy. He holds a degree in Theoretical Physics from the University of Catania, where his thesis was awarded by the Italian Society of Physics (SIF). He earned his Ph.D. in History, Philosophy, and Didactics of Science at the University of Cagliari and conducted research as a Visiting Scholar at Indiana University Bloomington.
His main areas of scientific interest include the foundations of Quantum Mechanics, Quantum Computation and Information, Quantum Machine Learning, and Argumentation Theory.
His work is highly interdisciplinary, allowing him to publish over 80 contributions across diverse fields in leading international journals. These include physics (e.g., Physical Review A, Journal of Physics A, New Journal of Physics, Physica A), logic/philosophy (e.g., Synthese, Journal of Symbolic Logic, Logic Journal of the IGPL, Fuzzy Sets and Systems), and computer science (e.g., Information Sciences, Applied Soft Computing).
He has delivered over 80 conference presentations, some hosted by prestigious international institutions such as the Munich Center for Mathematical Philosophy, Indiana University Bloomington, Ruhr University Bochum, Linnaeus University Växjö, VUB Brussels Free University, Universidad de Buenos Aires, Universidad Nacional de La Plata, Brazilian Federal University of Santa Catarina, Kazan Federal University, Korean Advanced Institute of Technology, Universiteit van Amsterdam, and the University of Melbourne.
Prof. Sergioli has served as Principal Investigator for several competitive research projects funded by the Italian Ministry for Research and other local agencies.
He is a member of various scientific societies, including the Italian Society of Logic and Philosophy of Science (SILFS), where he currently serves on the Board of Directors and previously held the position of Secretary, and the International Quantum Structures Association, where he was formerly a Council member.
He has held numerous institutional roles both at his university and at the Italian Ministry of University and Research. Currently, he serves as a National Commissioner for the qualification of Associate and Full Professors. He is also the Coordinator of the Ph.D. Program in Philosophy, Epistemology, and Human Sciences at the University of Cagliari, as well as the Coordinator of the Doctoral Programs Council for the University. He regularly supervises Ph.D. students.
In addition, he has acted as a reviewer for national and international research projects and actively participates in scientific and editorial committees within his areas of expertise.
