Ha conseguito la laurea in Ingegneria Chimica all’Università di Cagliari nel 1991 ed il titolo di dottore di ricerca in Ingegneria Metallurgica presso il Politecnico di Torino nel 1997.
E’ diventato Ricercatore Universitario dal 1998, Professore Associato dal 2002 e Professore Ordinario dal 2014.
I suoi principali interessi di ricerca riguardano i processi di sintesi e sinterizzazione di materiali innovativi e l’ingegneria delle reazioni chimiche. A partire dal 1995, sia in Italia sia negli USA (University of California, Davis), dove ha trascorso circa 2 anni come “visiting scholar” e “visiting scientist”, si è occupato dello studio sperimentale e teorico di processi di sintesi autopropagante ad alta temperatura (SHS), Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) e meccanochimici (BM). L’esperienza acquisita nell’ambito della tecnica SPS ha portato alla scrittura di un lavoro di review pubblicato nel 2009 su Mater. Sci. Eng R (I.F. 12.217), che ad oggi ha ricevuto 1070 citazioni (Scopus, Mar. 2023).
L'attività scientifica in questo ed in altri settori è documentata da circa 138 pubblicazioni in riviste scientifiche con "referees", 9 brevetti, libri, capitoli su libro e da oltre 180 presentazioni a congressi nazionali ed internazionali.
Attualmente possiede un H-index pari a 33 (Scopus e ISI Web of Science, Mar. 2023), compare nell’elenco dei "Top Italian Scientists" (https://www.topitalianscientists.org/TIS_HTML/Top_Italian_Scientists_Engineering.htm) come pure nella “Stanford listing of Highly Cited Researchers" (https://elsevier.digitalcommonsdata.com/datasets/btchxktzyw/3).
Fa parte del comitato editoriale delle riviste Coatings (MDPI), Eurasian Chemico-Technological J. e Russian Journal of Non-Ferrous Metals (Springer). Agisce in qualità di "reviewer" per numerose riviste internazionali dell'Ingegneria Chimica e della Scienza e Tecnologia dei Materiali.
Ha coordinato e partecipato a numerosi progetti di ricerca a livello nazionale e internazionale.

He received his Master Degree in Chemical Engineering at the University of Cagliari in 1991 and his PhD degree in Metallurgical Engineering at the Polytechnic of Torino in 1997.
He became Assistant Professor in 1998, Associate Professor in 2002 and Full Professor in 2014.
His principal research interests are the synthesis and sintering of advanced materials and chemical reaction engineering. Since 1995, in Italy and USA (University of California, Davis) where he spent about 2 years as visiting scholar and visiting scientist, he has been mainly involved in the investigation of self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS), Spark Plasma Sintering (SPS) and Ball Milling (BM) processes from both the theoretical and the experimental points of view.
His experience in the field of SPS processes has led to the publication in 2009 of a review paper on this subject in Mater. Sci. Eng R (I.F. 12.217). This paper has received so far 1070 citations (Scopus, Mar. 2023).
The scientific activity in this and other topics is documented by 138 papers published in peer-reviewed journals, 9 patents, books, book chapters, and over 180 presentations at national and international conferences.
