Cecilia Di Ruberto received the laurea summa cum laude in Computer Science from University of Salerno (Italy) in 1990 and the PhD in Mathematics and Computer Science from University of Naples (Italy) in 1995. After a two-year postdoctoral scholarship from University of Cagliari (Italy) she joined the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of the same University as Assistant Professor in 1997. Since 2006 she is Associate Professor of Computer Science at the same Department.
She is vice-coordinator of the PhD Program in Mathematics and Computer Science and member of CAV (Group for the quality assurance of teaching) for the Course in Computer Science (undergraduate and master degree).
She has participated in several national and international research projects. In 1999 and 2000 she was invited as visiting researcher at the Department of Electronic Systems, University of Westminster, London, and the National Institute for Medical Research, London, under a research project on “Development of image processing techniques for evaluating malaria disease”, and in 2001 to investigate shape analysis by morphological operators.
She is member of the associations GNCS (National Group for Scientific Computing) and GIRPR (Group of Italian Researchers in Pattern Recognition). She is reviewer for international journals and conferences. She is author of about 80 papers in journals, conference proceedings and book chapters.
Her research interests include theoretical and applied aspects of Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition. In particular, she has been concerning with image retrieval and classification, shape recognition by graph matching algorithms, polygonal approximation of closed curves by optimization techniques. Currently, she is interested in microscopy image analysis for biomedical applications.
She teaches the courses of “Algorithms and Data Structures”, Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, and “Image Processing and Analysis”, Master Degree in Computer Science.
