PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
He graduated in Medicine and Surgery on 03.23.1992 with a grade of 110/110, discussing with Prof. Sergio Montaldo the thesis in Legal and Insurance Medicine entitled: "The experimentally obtained firing distance in smooth-bore firearms, loaded with multiple charges, in relation to the length and constriction of the barrels and the variable components of the cartridges, compared with the lesions on the corpse". He was qualified to practice as a Medical Surgeon in the first session of the year 1992 with a grade of 79/90. He has been a member of the medical association of the province of Cagliari since 05.26.1992. From 05.12.1992 to February 1998 he was an Internal Doctor at the Institute of Legal and Insurance Medicine of the University of Cagliari with teaching, research and expert activity functions. In the academic year 1993-94 he had a contract for medical-legal sector activities with the University of Cagliari.
Since 1992 he has worked as a technical consultant and medical-legal expert, both in civil and criminal law and social security matters, for the various Judicial Offices of Sardinia, for which, among other things, from 1992 to date he has performed over 3000 autopsies. Since November 1998 he has been appointed medical-legal trustee of the Court for Patients' Rights for Sardinia and of AIMA (Italian Alzheimer's Disease Association) and carries out medical-legal consultancy and assistance functions for these bodies.
Since the academic year 2005-2006 he has been a lecturer in the integrated courses of Technique and diagnostics of forensic medical autopsies (1st year) and forensic medical semiotics (2nd year) at the School of Specialization in Forensic Medicine of the University of Cagliari, as well as a lecturer in Forensic Medicine at the three-year degree course for Medical Radiology Technicians, and Tutor for Forensic Medicine at the Faculty of Law at the same University. In the meeting of the Council of the Degree Course in Law of 31.01.2006 he was appointed "Cultore della Materia" for Forensic Medicine. From 29 December 2008 to 31 May 2019 he was a Researcher in Forensic Medicine (SSD MED/43) at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Cagliari and Medical Director at the Forensic Medicine Service of the Cagliari University Hospital.
In the fourth four-month session, from April 5, 2018, he obtained the National Scientific Qualification as Associate Professor in the Competition Sector 06/M2 for the SSD MED/43 (Legal Medicine).
Since June 1, 2019, he has been serving as Associate Professor of Legal Medicine (SSD MED/43) at the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Cagliari - Department of Medical Sciences and Public Health.
In the sixth four-month session, from April 28, 2021, he obtained the National Scientific Qualification as Full Professor in the Competition Sector 06/M2 for the SSD MED/43 (Legal Medicine).
Since August 16, 2023, he has been the Director of the Complex Structure of Forensic Medicine under University Management at the ARNAS “G. Brotzu” in Cagliari.
From 1992 to date, he has worked as a technical consultant and forensic medical expert for the Judicial Authority of all the Judicial Offices in Sardinia.

Since the academic year 2008/09, he has held the following courses:
In the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Cagliari:
1. Social Medicine and Toxicology in the Degree Course in Medicine and Surgery;
2. Forensic Medicine in the degree courses in “Medical Radiology Techniques, for Imaging and Radiotherapy”, “Nursing”, “Biomedical Laboratory Technicians” and “Speech Therapy”;
3. Bioethics in the Specialist Degree Course in “Nursing and Obstetric Sciences”.
In the Faculty of Law of the same University, he is the holder of the Course of Forensic Medicine.
4. Since the academic year 2015/16 he has held the teaching titled: "Risk Management" in the degree course in Nursing of the Faculty of Medicine and Surgery of the University of Cagliari.
5. Since the academic year 2018/19 he has held the teaching of Forensic Medicine in the degree courses in Dentistry and Dental Prosthetics, Physiotherapy, Psychiatric Rehabilitation Techniques, Prevention Techniques in the Environment and in the Workplace, Sciences of Technical and Diagnostic Health Professions, Professional Education of the University of Cagliari.
He is also a teacher at the School of Specialization in Forensic Medicine of the University of Cagliari and in the specialization schools in Internal Medicine, Neurology, Cardiology and Sports Medicine, of the University of Cagliari.
He is the coordinator of the integrated courses in Nursing Management in the Degree Course in Nursing and in Prevention and Health Services in the Degree Course for "Medical Radiology Technicians".

Since the academic year 2020/2021, he has been a member of the teaching staff of the PhD in “Neuroscience” (DOT 1304884) - cycle 36, of the University of Cagliari.

Stress in hospital at-risk departments”, in the context of two larger projects entitled “Effects of aerobic exercise on cortical activity, cognition and biomarkers in depressed patients” and “Effects of aerobic exercise on cortical activity, cognition and biomarkers in panic disorder patients” in collaboration with the Institute of Psychiatry of the University of Rio de Janeiro. 3) Project presented to the Fondazione Banco di Sardegna, Year 2015, entitled: “The prevention of gender violence: Analyzing the opinions of ordinary people to create good practices.”
4) Research Project on “metabolomic modifications in freedivers”, entrusted to him by the Italian Federation of Sport Fishing and Underwater Activities, on the occasion of the 5th European Open Indoor Freediving Championship, held in Cagliari from 12 to 18 June 2017.
5) Two-year Research Project 2018-2020, funded by the Fondazione di Sardegna entitled “Active Elderly and Health” where Dr. Demontis participates as Head of the “Economic impact on Disability” Unit, dealing with establishing the impact in terms of prevention of disability and quantification of the prevention of damage to health obtained from a physical exercise program in old age. 6) Multicenter Research Project between the University “G. D’Annunzio” of Chieti (Institute of Legal Medicine and Medical Physiology), the University of Cagliari (Institute of Legal Medicine) and ASL 02 Abruzzo of Chieti-Lanciano-Vasto, entitled: “Study of the regenerative capacity of human post-mortem muscle for thanatochronological purposes”, of which Prof. Demontis is the local coordinator for the Cagliari office from 2020 until the end of the project, which is still ongoing.
