Drug Sciences

The Drug Sciences section carries out research lines dealing with the synthesis, characterization and study of the structure vs. activity relationship of molecules of biological interest including, among the others, allosteric inhibitors of HIV-1 Ribonuclease H (RT-RNase H) and Integrase, molecules with antiviral, anticancer, antifungal and poly-pharmacological actions for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases with the aid of computer aided drug design and virtual screening and the prediction of drug-like properties (ADMET). Many active molecules are identified through extraction processes from higher plants with subsequent structural delucidation. Other research lines are dedicated to the formulation, characterization and development of Drug Delivery Systems (liposomes, niosomes, polymeric or lipid nanoparticles, appropriately formulated and functionalized metal nanoparticles) for cutaneous, tumoral and Central Nervous System targeting.
