3SM Project – Smart Sea Santa Marinella

Control and Monitoring of the Santa Severa Marine Area

The aim of the project is to develop an ICT platform for environmental purposes, with actions focused on preserving the marine environment and strengthening its timely control, also in relation to human activities carried out in the area, through appropriate chemical/physical descriptors and innovative detection tools.

Through the 3SM management and control platform, it will be possible to alert the competent authorities to environmental issues.

  • A set of buoys located at sea and equipped with sensors capable of detecting the presence of pollutants will make it possible to generate an alarm when they detect their presence.
  • Using a mobile app, visitors will be able to promptly report issues such as littering, spills of polluting liquids into the sea, fires, etc., providing the exact location where they occurred.
  • Thanks to a fleet of drones, it will be possible to patrol the stretch of water in front of the Santa Marinella area, so as to identify situations of interest, such as the sighting of particular marine fauna or the abnormal behavior of boats in areas closed to navigation, etc.
  • A set of PTZ cameras positioned at strategic points along the Santa Marinella coastline will enable round-the-clock monitoring of the stretch of water in front of the observation points. Furthermore, thanks to AI pattern recognition algorithms, it will be possible to interpret the frames captured and alert the personnel responsible for control and monitoring in the event of situations of interest or that could cause damage to the environment.
  • Finally, a Control Room will be able to reproduce the monitored and controlled environment using Virtual Set techniques, capable of displaying the information collected by the various sensors and devices distributed throughout the territory.

Once the reports have been received, again via the web portal, operators will proceed to manage them, and having received the location and type of problem that has occurred, they will be able to plan a mission by one of the drones in the fleet to obtain detailed images and live streaming video footage.
