Virtualization and Orchestration of Liquid multi-Tenant network Architectures (VOLTA)
Within Spoke 6 of the RESTART program, the COHERENT project aims to define a holistic network framework for creating new market opportunities for the industrial world through an open network architecture for the virtualization of nodes and network functions at the Edge. In this context, the VOLTA project is focused on defining a Digital Twin (DT) model for network objects and the corresponding management/orchestration of these objects at various levels of the overall architecture. The model is validated on a use case related to the energy efficiency of the cellular network access portion.
Project purpose
The VOLTA project aims to establish, based on the KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) and KVIs (Key Value Indicators) of the considered use case, a model and an ontology of the Digital Twin (DT) for the abstraction of network devices, leveraging SIoT (Social Internet of Things) techniques to support their management and orchestration in multi-tenant environments. The proposed architecture will be experimentally validated through a Proof-of-Concept (PoC).
Results achieved
The VOLTA project will define a Digital Twin (DT) ontology, integrated into the COHERENT architecture through the framework known as AAS (Asset Administration Shell). Based on this model, algorithms will be developed for the management and orchestration of network services at the Edge of the network. The research results associated with these activities will be published in project deliverables and through articles in leading conferences and journals in the field. Finally, a Proof-of-Concept (PoC) will be developed for the experimental validation of the proposed methodologies.
