Research fields

The research activity focuses on three axes of study: the requalification of historic and modern city landscapes; the reuse and conservation of architectural and urban heritage; the architectural design of the territory and landscape.

In Academia, he studies heterotopic architectures, with particular focus on disused historical prisons and psychiatric hospitals. This research has been funded by the Fondazione di Sardegna and the Regiona Autonoma della Sardegna The outcomes, still in progress, have been presented at several international conferences and lectures at numerous national doctoral programs. In addition, in 2023, some of these studies have been published in the volumes “Architetture Liberate. Il carcere di San Sebastiano a Sassari" (published by Gangemi Roma); “Destini incrociati per le fabbriche detentive storiche dismesse/Crossed Destinies for the Decommissioned Historical Prisons” (ArcHistoR).

He studies the theme of city project and landscape reuse. This research has had numerous project outcomes, including “Project for urban requalification and safety of the peripheries in the city of Cagliari”, funded by the Italian Government - Presidency of the Council of Ministers, 2016, and “Urban and landscape regeneration project for the territory of Villacidro” (in progress). Interest in this topic emerges in the text “The urban project adrift. Loosing and finding the route” (published by LetteraVentidue, Siracusa).

He addresses the theme of architecture at the large scale, with regard to coastal architecture and the design of metropolitan territories, for which he has recently published, with A. Dessì, the volume "Paesaggi neometropolitani/Neometropolitan Landscapes" (published by LetteraVentidue, Siracusa).
