Department of Mechanical, Chemical and Materials Engineering

Michele Brun graduated in Civil Engineering at University of Brescia (I) in 1999 and got his PhD in Solid and Structural Mechanics at University of Trento nel 2002.

He has been “visiting scientist” at the following institutions: Laboratoire d’Acoustique de l’Université du Mans (F), Department of Mechanical Engineering, Amirkabir University of Technology, Tehran Polytechnique (Iran),  Department of  Mathematical Sciences, University of Liverpool (UK), Laboratoire des Mecanique des Solides, Ecole Polytechnique, Palaiseau (F) and Department of Mechanical Engineering. University of Colorado at Boulder, CO (USA).

At University of Cagliari, he is actually teaching "Basic Structural Mechanics" (Bachelor courses in Chemical Engineering and Environmentaland Landscape Engineering) and "Advanced Theory of Structures" (Master degree in Mechanical Engineering).

His research interest is in the following areas: Solid and Structural Mechanics, wave propagation in elastic solids and structures, metamaterials, micro-structured media: auxetics and negative therma expansion, contact mechanics, composites materials, continuum mechanics (finite elasticity), numerical methods (BEM, Fortran code, FEM), instability (bifurcations in elastic structures, surface instability, shear bands), fundamental solutions and Green’s functions, atomistic models (MEAM), fracture mechanics in anisotropic media, variational formulations, integration algorithms in structural dynamics, dynamic propagation of structural failure.

He is coauthor of over 70 publications in international journals, his H-index is 21 (Scopus).

He was Principal Investigator in several international and national projects.
