Abstract

In Stanley Kubrick's film Shining the principle space is an immense isolated hotel. The connective point but also a character in the plot. The film director incorporates into his film the conventions of the horror genre, implying the presence of ghosts and paranormal powers. However, as Michel Ciment writes, every film by Kubrick demolishes the limits of a genre and renews it, surprising the spectator with the radical nature of a different way of viewing the world. Like fairy tales Kubrick's films are tools of knowledge: they give spectators the opportunity to experience emotions but also and above all to reflect on the reality around them and on the conflicts within their own inner world.
