Valentina Serra è Professoressa Associata di Letteratura Tedesca (SSD L-LIN/13) presso il Dipartimento di Lettere, Lingue e Beni Culturali. Si è laureata in Lingue e Letterature Straniere presso l’Università degli Studi Cagliari (1998) e ha conseguito il titolo di Dottore di ricerca in Letterature Comparate presso lo stesso Ateneo (2003). È stata assegnista di ricerca nell’ambito del progetto “L’incidenza dell’intellettuale nella realtà austriaca contemporanea: la critica della società, il rapporto con la storia, la riflessione sull’arte” (2003-2006) e dal 2006 al 2019 è stata Ricercatrice Universitaria a tempo indeterminato per il Settore Scientifico-Disciplinare L-LIN/13 (Letteratura tedesca); nell’ottobre del 2018 ha conseguito l’Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale alle funzioni di Professore Universitario di seconda fascia (settore concorsuale 10/M1 – Lingue, letterature e culture germaniche).

Valentina Serra ha partecipato a convegni nazionali e internazionali; dal 2012 al 2017 ha fatto parte del Collegio del Dottorato in Studi filologici e letterari dell’Università degli Studi di Cagliari e dal 2020 è nel Collegio del Dottorato Internazionale in Studi filologico-letterari e storico-culturali dell’Università di Cagliari.

Dal 2016 è Referente per la Qualità per il Corso Magistrale in Filologie e Letterature Classiche e Moderne e dal 2019 è Coordinatrice Erasmus per i Corsi di Studio delle Classi in Lettere.  

I suoi ambiti di ricerca comprendono la letteratura di lingua tedesca contemporanea, con particolare interesse per gli anni della Repubblica di Weimar, per la Exilliteratur (Deutsch für Deutsche, Valveri 2001) e per la funzione dell’arte e dell’artista nella lotta contro la barbarie nazionalsocialista (Parigi 1935, Bulzoni 2005). Si è occupata del tema delle isole e, più specificatamente, dell’immagine della Sardegna nella letteratura di lingua tedesca (Island geopoetics and the postcolonial discourse of Sardinia in German-language literature, «Island Studies Journal», 12, 2017), di esotismo e della rappresentazione dell’Altro (Between Dream and Nightmare. The Austrian Deconstruction of the Myth of Pacific Islands, in Pacific Insularity. Imaginary Geography of Insular Spaces in the Pacific, ed. by M. Heitkemper-Yates-Th. Schwarz, 2021) anche relativamente al ruolo svolto dall’odeporica nella politica coloniale tedesca (progetto di ricerca “Odeporica e colonizzazione tedesca in Africa – Reiseberichte und deutsche Kolonisation in Afrika”, Istituto Italiano di Studi Germanici-Roma, 2017-2019; Georg Schweinfurth. Letzter Naturforscher humboldtscher Prägung an der Schwelle einer sich verändernden Welt, in Odeporica e colonizzazione tedesca in Africa / Reiseberichte und deutsche Kolonisation in Afrika, a cura di M. Pala-V. Serra, 2021).  Da diversi anni indaga le forme dell’impegno nella letteratura austriaca contemporanea, con particolare attenzione per l’opera di Robert Menasse (Robert Menasse. Intellettuale, scrittore e critico europeo, FrancoAngeli 2018).

Valentina Serra is Associate Professor of German Literature at the University of Cagliari (Italy). Her research has focused on exile literature (Deutsch für Deutsche, Valveri 2001) and the cultural debate and function of intellectuals in the face of the rise of fascism in Europe (Parigi 1935, Bulzoni 2005). She has also studied the forms of engagement in Austrian contemporary literature, especially in the work of Robert Menasse (Robert Menasse. Intellettuale, scrittore e critico europeo, FrancoAngeli 2018). She has been working on the island motif and especially on the image of Sardinia in German-language literature (Island geopoetics and the postcolonial discourse of Sardinia in German-language literature, «Island Studies Journal», 12, 2017), on exotism and on the representation of the Other (Between Dream and Nightmare. The Austrian Deconstruction of the Myth of Pacific Islands, in Pacific Insularity. Imaginary Geography of Insular Spaces in the Pacific, ed. by M. Heitkemper-Yates-Th. Schwarz, 2021), also in relation to the role played by travel literature in German colonialism (project “Odeporica e colonizzazione tedesca in Africa – Reiseberichte und deutsche Kolonisation in Afrika”, financed by the Istituto Italiano di Studi Germanici-Rome, 2017-2019; Georg Schweinfurth. Valentina Serra ist Professorin (Professoressa Associata) für Deutsche Literatur an der Universität Cagliari (Italien). 2003 promovierte sie im Fach Vergleichende Literaturwissenschaften und erwarb 2018 die wissenschaftliche Eignung als beigeordnete Professorin für Deutsche Literatur. Sie hat sich mit Tarnschriften als literarischer Widerstand gegen den Nationalsozialismus (Deutsch für Deutsche, Valveri 2001) und mit der literarischen Debatte auf dem „Ersten Internationalen Schriftstellerkongress für die Verteidigung der Kultur“ (Paris 1935, Bulzoni 2005) beschäftigt. Ferner untersuchte sie die Formen des Engagements in der österreichischen Literatur der Gegenwart, insbesondere im Werk von Robert Menasse (Robert Menasse. Intellettuale, scrittore e critico europeo, FrancoAngeli 2018). Seit Jahren beschäftigt sie sich mit dem Inselmotiv, insbesondere mit dem Bild Sardiniens in der deutschsprachigen Literatur (Island geopoetics and the postcolonial discourse of Sardinia in German-language literature, «Island Studies Journal», 12, 2017) und mit dem Motiv des Exotismus (Between Dream and Nightmare. The Austrian Deconstruction of the Myth of Pacific Islands, in Pacific Insularity. Imaginary Geography of Insular Spaces in the Pacific, ed. by M. Heitkemper-Yates-Th. Schwarz, 202.). 2017-2019 arbeitete sie am Projekt “Odeporica e colonizzazione tedesca in Africa – Reiseberichte und deutsche Kolonisation in Afrika” mit, das vom Istituto Italiano di Studi Germanici (IISG - Rom) unterstützt wurde (Georg Schweinfurth.
