Department of Civil, Environmental and Architecture Engineering

Eleonora Sottile is Assistant Professor of "Urban and Metropolitan Transport" at the Department of Civil Environmental Engineering and Architecture of University of Cagliari.

In 2015, she earned her Ph.D. in Territorial Engineering from the University of Cagliari, defending a thesis titled "Construction of Hybrid Discrete Choice Models for assessing the effects of information strategies on trip mode choice as well as the latent aspects." During her Ph.D., she spent a semester as a Visiting Ph.D. student at the Technical University of Denmark.

Since 2011, she has been collaborating with the Center for Mobility Models Research (CRiMM), providing technical and scientific consultancy on mobility demand analysis and simulation, as well as the design of surveys on revealed preferences (RP) and stated preferences (SP).

She has gained experience in various areas of mobility planning, including public transport, active mobility, shared mobility, and electric mobility. Her research activities focus on econometric models for estimating mobility demand in different contexts and settings. Her research interests primarily revolve around identifying measures and actions to promote policies that discourage the use of private motorized vehicles in favor of more sustainable modal alternatives.

She serves as a technical consultant in the preparation of Urban Traffic Plans (PUT) and is an expert member of the "Management of Sustainable Mobility" working group at the University of Cagliari.

She is responsible for research units, coordinator, or collaborator in numerous national and international research projects, including:

  • PRIN 2022: SUITABLE (SUstainable mobIliTy and AccessiBiLity in pEriurban environments)
  • Spoke 08 – Mobility as a Service - MOST Project – National Center for Sustainable Mobility - PNRR
  • Spoke 09 – Urban Mobility - MOST Project – National Center for Sustainable Mobility - PNRR
  • Spoke 10 – Freight Logistics - MOST Project – National Center for Sustainable Mobility – PNRR
  • Passenger Mobility as a Service (MYPASS) - Industrial research and experimental development projects in the 12 Specialization Areas identified by the PNR 2015-2020.
  • National Experimental Program for Sustainable Mobility home-study and home-work: Cagliari for intelligent and sustainable mobility (Svolta)
  • Network of Universities for Sustainable Development – CRUI
  • NETwork for EneRgy and Internet of Things (NETERGIT)
  • Instruments and Models for Sustainable Mobility (SIMPLE)
  • SpiralMoove - Aid for Research and Development Projects - POR FESR 2014-2020
  • BICIMIPIACI "Integrated program for urban development and cycling, pedestrian, and commuter mobility in the metropolitan areas of Cagliari and Sassari" - POR FESR 2007-2013

Throughout her research career, she has been a speaker and keynote speaker at numerous national and international conferences and co-authored around fifty scientific papers published in international journals, proceedings, and books.

Since 2015, she has consistently conducted peer-review activities for various scientific journals in the field, including Transportation, Transportation Research Part F: Traffic Psychology and Behavior, Transportation Planning and Technology, Transport & Health, and Case Studies on Transport Policy.

She is a member of CRIMM - Center for Mobility Models Research at the University of Cagliari and SIDT - Italian Society of Transportation Professors.
