The District’s current head office dates back to the establishment of the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy in 1925, when it was housed in temporary and unsuitable premises; it then became an inter-faculty body in the 1938–39 academic year, following the establishment of the Faculty of Education. In 1941, it moved to Via Corte d’Appello, into the Mauritian Palace – a building dating from the first half of the 17th century – which had previously housed the Jesuit College of Santa Croce and the Court of Appeal, from which the street takes its name. Since 1993, it has occupied its own premises on Via Trentino, in a building adjacent to the Faculties of Humanities. In June 2008, it became the Library of the Humanities District – ‘Dante Alighieri’ Section. The Library forms part of the wider University Library System (SBA) and is a partner of the National Library Service (SBN); within this framework, it is committed to promoting greater dissemination and access to information through the modernisation of its procedures. Around two-thirds of its collection can be accessed via the SBN OPAC.
