Introduction to Japanese education system (Tokyo Tech. experience)
03 May 2013

Introduction to Japanese education system (Tokyo Tech. experience)
Unique fabrication system for free formed 3D model
Contact mechanics and its role in Tribological fields

Il contributo del Prof. Tanaka sarà articolato in due date:

Venerdì 3 maggio 2013, ore 15.00:

1. Introduction of Japanese education system, and unique curriculum in "Dept. of Mechanical and Intelligent Systems Engineering, Tokyo Tech".
In the department, we give our student "the lecture-lab integrated class". As it can be easily understood from the name, student receive the lecture at first, then try to understand the content of the lecture by simple experiment or exercise in the same day.

2. Evolution of machine tools, and introduction of the leading-edge of them.
Japan is currently one of the top country regarding machine tools development.
Different from conventional machines like milling machine, lathe etc, current multi-axis and multi-tasking machines can manage complicated movement and make a complex parts by one-chacking. In the seminar, I will introduce trend of market of current machine tools comparing with conventional tools.

Venerdì 10 Maggio 2013, ore 15.00:

1. Introduction of Japanese education system, and unique curriculum in "Dept. of Mechanical and Intelligent Systems Engineering, Tokyo Tech".

2. Contact mechanics tribological importance to evaluate the real contact area.
An introduction to the experimental techniques for the measurement of the status of contact between solid bodies, with special focus on the real contact area.
The comparison of two independent techniques (optical and ultrasonic)
for the measurement of contact is currently under investigation in a Tokyo Tech - UNICA joint research. The current status of the research will be presented.

3. Unique fabrication system for free formed 3D Models.
Nowadays, so many unique 3D fabrication principle have been proposed and some of them are already in practical use. Rapid prototyping is one of the most effective tools to make complicated shape. In recent years, it have been used not only for making prototype, but also fabricate final product. In this seminar, some kinds of rapid prototyping system with their feature and strongpoint will be introduced.
