Interdepartmental and interuniversity centres

The Centres carry out research and scientific collaboration activities of significant commitment on multi-year projects between Professors belonging to different Departments of the same University or between multiple University locations.

GRAMSCILAB INTERDEPARTMENTAL CENTRE

  • Participating structures: Departments of Pedagogy, Psychology and Philosophy, of Letters, Languages and Cultural Heritage and of Political and Social Sciences of the University of Cagliari.
  • Date of establishment: March 6, 2025
  • Duration: 3 years renewable
  • Objective: to spread knowledge of the figure and thought of Antonio Gramsci, providing tools for specific training courses and new opportunities for in-depth study, in synergy with schools and study centres around the world, according to a multidisciplinary approach that makes use of the results of international Gramscian studies, as well as activating opportunities for reflection on specific thematic and conceptual insights central to the international debate.

INTERDEPARTMENTAL CENTRE FOR TEACHING ITALIAN TO FOREIGNERS - C.I.S

  • Participating structures: Departments of Pedagogy, Psychology and Philosophy and of Letters, Languages and Cultural Heritage of the University of Cagliari.

  • Objective: to carry out teaching, training and scientific research activities in the field of teaching Italian as a second language (L2) and foreign language (LS) aimed at promoting knowledge and dissemination of the Italian language and culture in the territory and in the world, as well as theoretical and methodological tools for teaching.

INTERDEPARTMENTAL CENTRE FOR MONITORING AND MANAGEMENT OF HEALTH CRISIS

  • Participating structures: Departments of Pedagogy, Psychology and Philosophy, Mechanical, Chemical and Materials Engineering, Surgical Sciences, Life and Environmental Sciences, Medical Sciences and Public Health of the University of Cagliari.
  • Date of establishment: May 4, 2021

  • Objective: The objectives of this centre are consistent with the directives of the European health program "Europe4Health" and with the need to strengthen the sector as emerged during the Covid-19 pandemic, although the objectives extend towards the response to potential health crises produced by more varied situations and agents.

INTERDEPARTMENTAL CENTRE CAGLIARI ACCESSIBILITY LAB - PHYSICAL AND COGNITIVE ACCESSIBILITY

  • Objective: to recognize the specificities and differences between the various categories of people with disabilities, identifying their needs and requirements, and, at the same time, broadening the concept of disability to populations that until now have been considered “able-bodied” (elderly, children, pregnant women, etc.); distinguish between the various definitions of the concept of “accessibility” and analyse their relationship with the different disabilities.
     

INTERUNIVERSITY CENTRE FOR RESEARCH ON METAPHORS - CIRM

  • Objective: to promote, develop and coordinate studies and research in the field of both conventional and creative metaphors, developing a coherent typology of the different structures on a grammatical and conceptual level, a shared annotation system and an analysis of the various functions of metaphorical expressions in a vast typology of literary and utilitarian texts to promote scientific debate and related publications and offer adequate support to teaching in the field to stimulate interdisciplinary collaboration initiatives with other university departments and structures, with national and international research bodies, with operational research units established at public and private bodies to organize courses, seminars, activities and refresher courses, study conferences and scientific dissemination initiatives in the above-mentioned disciplinary fields, in compliance with current legislation to establish research prizes or grants for the achievement of the goals of the center, in compliance with current legislation, provided that the funding is specifically intended for this purpose by the funder to promote technology transfer to companies, through the development of joint research and development projects and through specific contracts. PHENOMENOLOGICAL RESEARCH WORKSHOP -ORF

  • Objective: to promote Husserlian and post-Husserlian phenomenological research, the translation of texts, the organization of seminar meetings, conferences, Summer schools, training courses and other collective and interdisciplinary research initiatives, the scientific publication of the results and the dissemination of the research also internationally.

INTERUNIVERSITY RESEARCH CENTER ON COGNITIVE PROCESSING IN NATURAL AND ARTIFICIAL SYSTEMS - ECONA

  • Objective: Promote and coordinate research on cognitive processing in natural and artificial systems; 2. Promote the exchange of information between the Institutes and Departments of the University of Rome “La Sapienza”, the University of Roma TRE, the University of Bari, the University of Calabria, the University of Naples “Vanvitelli”, L’Aquila, Perugia, Cagliari and Palermo, also within the framework of a collaboration with other Institutes or University Departments and with Research Centers of Public Bodies, Moral Bodies, Cultural Institutions, Consortia and Companies operating in the sector, both nationally and internationally; 3. Stimulate initiatives of scientific dissemination and interdisciplinary collaboration both nationally and internationally; 4. Stimulate international collaboration agreements with other foreign groups involved in research and training in the sector.

INTERUNIVERSITY RESEARCH CENTER CENTER ON VIRTUES (ARETAI)

  • Objectives:
    • a) promote, develop and coordinate studies and research in the fields of character formation and virtues on a philosophical level (historical and speculative) and in the human sciences in general;
    • b) promote scientific debate and related publications and offer adequate support to teaching in the field;
    • c) stimulate interdisciplinary collaboration initiatives with other university departments and structures, with national and international research bodies, with operational research units established in public and private bodies;
    • d) organize courses, seminars, activities and refresher courses, study conferences and scientific dissemination initiatives in the disciplinary areas referred to in point a) of this article, in compliance with current legislation;
    • e) establish research awards or grants for the achievement of the goals of the center, in compliance with current legislation, provided that the funding is specifically intended for this purpose by the funder.

INTERUNIVERSITY RESEARCH CENTER PRAGMATISM, KNOWLEDGE CONSTRUCTION AND EDUCATION - PCSF

  • Duration: 6 years renewable.
  • Objective: organize skills and activities in a mode of interuniversity collaboration and according to a precise interdisciplinary program, foreseeing the possible subsequent adhesion of social, scholastic and educational institutions also at a professional level, which will be able to increase the analysis and concrete application of the cultural potential expressed by the philosophy of pragmatist inspiration. Pragmatism, in fact, is mainly a method of research and reasoning that tends to highlight issues related to the construction of beliefs and, more generally, of different knowledge, placing a close correlation between theory and practice or going beyond the dichotomous meaning of this conceptual pair as well as the many others that follow from it, such as fact/value, body/mind, natural sciences/spiritual sciences, method/interpretation.

INTERUNIVERSITY RESEARCH CENTRE IN ENVIRONMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY – C.I.R.P.A.

Objective: promote, coordinate and carry out studies and research in the field of Environmental Psychology (and therefore on the relationships between people and physical and social or socio-physical environments); promote the use, consultation and exchange of information, study materials and research results between researchers in the sector, also within the framework of relationships with other university institutes or departments, national and international, public and private research bodies; stimulate activities aimed at training researchers on topics and areas pertaining to the activities of the Centre; encourage the development of collaborations between scholars belonging to different disciplinary fields; organize study meetings, seminars and conferences at national and international level; carry out scientific support, research, training and evaluation activities for State Administrations, as well as for public and private bodies and moral entities, in various capacities interested in the problems of interactions and transactions between people and socio-physical environments of various types, including natural environments, those built by man, virtual ones and those linked to new technologies; promote and implement the training and updating of operators who carry out their activity in the service of bodies and institutions that operate in the sectors indicated above.
