Abstract

- LMO is a topological multiferroic with large magnetoelectric response: - LMO's ferroelectricity results from its layered structure, producing dipoles from rotations instead of off-centering displacements. The polarization is P=(0,0,Ps) with Ps=0.17 C/m2, comparable to displacive FE's; the estimated TC is about 1500 K. - LMO is a superexchange-driven, approximately G-type antiferromagnet with an estimated TN=270 K; due to spin canting, LMO is in fact a weak FM. - LMO has a large lattice-mediated magnetoelectric response, producing cross-field response. The magnetoelectric tensor is over 70 times that of the paradigmatic magnetoelectric Cr2O3.
