Abstract
Enrico Guidoni’s research has explored numerous aspects of urban planning in the Middle Ages, specifying or identifying for the first time principles and models, then periodizations, which have renewed the methods of reading urban contexts. Guidoni has explored the design technique, as the conscious application of executive thoughts: one of the keys to understanding the achievements that is still the backbone of many European urban realities. The design thinking of those who commissioned the foundations of cities in the Middle Ages is reflected in the documentation and geometric and technical evidence still detectable in the field. The architects of the projects, with their techniques, have defined complex executive procedures and often substantiated by artistic intentions. This contribution traces, in a brief synthesis, some of the main themes underlying the medieval design technique.File | Size | Format | |
