Abstract
Theatre, literature and research are inextricably intertwined in the work and life of Luigi Rasi (1852-1918), director of the Royal School of Acting of Florence and last exponent of the teaching of declamation as a true science on stage. Rasi himself, a hybrid figure of actor, scholar and teacher, endowed with a vast culture, was able to cross the borders between the arts, in dialogue with the demands of his time and in a European perspective. His conception of the stage was able to combine history with experimentation: within this context, he conceived theatre training as a fundamental part of a broader project to reform Italian theatre and its relationship with society, the fruitful seeds of which would bear fruit in the following decades of the twentieth century. Thanks also to the exploitation of previously unpublished material and correspondence, the book reconstructs Rasi's figure and activities in a unitary perspective and explains his decisive contribution to the history of theatre.Items in DSpace are protected by copyright, with all rights reserved, unless otherwise indicated.
