Department of Economics and Business

Maryia Zaitsava is an Assitant Professor in Organization Studies at the Department of Economics and Business and Center of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CREA-UniCa), at the University of Cagliari. She holds a Ph.D. in Economics and Business cum laude with the Doctor Europaeus label, and a joint M.Sc. and MBA at the Middlesex University (London) and Mykolas Romeris University (Vilnius). She has been a Visiting Research Fellow at the Liverpool Business School, Liverpool John Moores University (UK), and Haas Business School, University of California, Berkeley. 

Her research focuses on the challenges and opportunities of the early stages of digital transformation. Specifically, she explores dynamics related to proof-of-concept and early stages of R&D, data-driven decision-making, and decisions based on Big Data, as well as the emergence of digital platforms.

Maryia Zaitsava collaborates on various research projects internationally, such as with the University of Berkeley, Vienna University of Economics and Business or Liverpool Business School. Dr. Zaitsava publishes in international peer-reviewed journals, such as the European Management Journal, the International Journal of Business and Management, and the Journal of Management and Governance. She is also the co-author of the two books  "Nascent Women Entrepreneurship and the Role of Women: an Empirical Study" (2022) and "Organizing Innovation: Perspectives on Big Data, Emerging Technologies, and Smart Cities", as well as book chapters and conference proceedings, including AOM, EGOS, WOA, and WOIC.

Maryia is also the co-founder of WEsion, a spin-off of the University of Cagliari.
