Silvia Stagi graduated with honours in Natural Science at the University of Cagliari in February
2017. After seven months of graduation, she joined the PhD program in "Life, Environmental and
Drug Sciences" of the University of Cagliari, working at the laboratory of body composition and
anthropometry, within the research group of Professor Elisabetta Marini. She obtained her PhD
(cum laude) in 2021, with a thesis titled ‘Long-term effects of sport on segmental body
composition: a study in adult and elderly subjects’. The aim of her thesis was to study the impact of
physical exercise on the physiological and psychological well-being during aging. This study was
conducted through the analysis of the body composition, evaluated by means of bioelectrical
impedance vector analysis (BIVA) and psychological state assessment techniques. During the PhD
period, three months were spent at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU – Bilbao),
working on the study of body image perception, in collaboration with Professor Esther Rebato and
her team. Other five months were spent at the Institut Nacional d'Educació Física de Catalunya
(Universitat de Catalunya – Barcelona), with Professor Alfredo Irurtia Amigó and his research
group, with the aim of validating a new segmental body composition approach.
Silvia Stagi continued her work with a six-month fellowship in a project titled “Assessment of body
composition by bioelectrical impedance vector analysis in athletes subjected to different conditions
of cerebral oxygenation”, whose scientific responsible is Professor Antonio Crisafulli. Her research
currently focuses on the design of a new body composition device in association with an industrial
partner, and in parallel she is studying malnutrition in children. Since the end of 2021, she has a
Researcher position at the Department of Life and Environmental Sciences, University of Cagliari.
