Dipartimento di Scienze chimiche e geologiche

Dr. Stefania Da Pelo has got a degree in Geological Sciences and a PhD in Earth of Sciences.

She is a Tenure Track Researcher in Applied geology at the Department of Chemistry and Earth Sciences – University of Cagliari.

Her research interests were mainly concentrated on environmental studies, mainly addressed to the processes of water-rock interaction in active and closed mining areas and in industrial area. The most important scientific results concern (i) the study of the formation-dissolution-precipitation cycle of secondary products of sulphide oxidation, (ii) the study of the surface reactions of minerals of environmental interest, (iii) the geochemical and mineralogical controls on the distribution and the mobility of heavy metals in groundwaters and soils, (iv) environmental impact assessment of mining activity and (v) groundwater monitoring network design.

Adjunct Professor in Geochemistry at the University of Cagliari from 2008 to 2011 and Research Professor in Applied Geology from 2014.

She worked as a consultant for the “Environmental Protection and Management of Water Resources Service” at the Regional Government of Sardinia (Italy) for the implementation of the 2000/60/EC Directive through the “River basin management plan” aiming at sustainable management and protection of freshwater resources and related ecosystems. She also has experience of undertaking large SIAs.

She is author and co-author of several scientific paper, IMWA and SIGEA member and reviewer for  Mine Water and the Environment journal (Springer), Science of the Total environment and Environmental Engineering and Management Journal.
